Before the 8 week Challenge I had been to the Gym 5 times in 5 years and hadn’t eaten breakfast regularly since I was child. For over 10 years I consumed ½ a packet of cigarettes and at least 2 Energy drinks a day and I also drank alcohol at least a few nights a week. Diagnosed with PCOS, a Hormonal Condition, last year, I was 61.5kgs and in a rather dark, sad place. Being told I would always struggle with my weight and with acne because of my condition scared me, but for some reason I didn’t have the motivation to change much. Being encouraged by my team to do the challenge was the motivation I needed to start by giving up cigarettes to be physically able to exercise well. At the 2 week mark of quitting smoking, I had some reassurance that I could achieve what I wanted to achieve, so I bought myself a newspaper and registered. Enrolling into the challenge I had no idea what I was actually getting myself into, given I had no real idea on how to fasten my metabolism and build a six pack. This challenge for me has been the mission of a life-time; a million and one lessons learned and changed me in more ways than just a slimmer waistline. After seeing a dietician, a psychologist and a few personal trainers I had a good attitude and guideline to follow. Taking a Probiotics Ultra, a Repair Ultra and 2 Essential Vitamins every morning with oats, yoghurt and berries fast became a habit I thoroughly enjoyed. I began walking to the gym every morning at 7am, 5 days a week before work doing 20 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of strength training. Initially, just to get me to the gym, I needed to listen to a motivating audio clip to remind me why I was doing what I was. After working out I would have the Meal Replacement with Fiber Plus and usually as an afternoon snack I would have my SuperGreens. With Lunch and Dinner I took 2 Essential Vitamins and 1 Digest Ultra and before bed I would take another Probiotic Ultra and Repair Ultra. For Lunch and Dinner I tried to mostly stick to some form of good source of protein and some sort of salad or vegetables. I found myself in habit still overeating to some degree and also sometimes reaching for hormone comforting sweets. In a short time I noticed improvement in a few areas including the strength of my weak previously injured ankles. This was so amazing to me as they had been hurting in simple daily routine since I injured them over a year ago. At about 5 weeks into the challenge my energy levels, the clarity of my thoughts and overall feeling for life had increased beyond my belief and I started feeling better than I ever had before. For me, the most amazing thing was the improvement in the symptoms in my condition, including my acne, hormonal episodes and my overall mental wellbeing. Honestly, I believe the challenge has saved me. Although at 59Kgs I am not at my goal or ideal weight, the results of my first 8 week challenge is more noticeable in invaluable knowledge. This whole experience gave me my confidence and belief in myself back. My journey with YORHealth has given me so much incentive and motivation that it was the driving force behind enrolling in a degree in Nutritional Medicine 4 weeks ago. I now have the power to continue to improve my health, weight, condition and wellbeing. I managed to drop 2 1/2 inches on my waist, 1 1/2 inches on my hips, 1 1/4 inch on my thighs and 3/4 an inch on my arms and neck. This challenge has just left me wanting to do it all again to achieve more and you WILL see me again soon. My ultimate goal is to improve my health so much that my condition just... disappears!
