Previous to starting the 8 week challenge I was really skeptical about all the products that were involved. Currently studying a Bachelor of Sport and Recreation, having completed several papers in advanced nutrition I was still unsuccessful in finding a steady, good nutrition plan that fit the needs to that of my body. Light was shed into numerous different diet plans and general healthy food habits, however, I was continuously struggling with sticking to the foods that we requested. As a result, I have yo-yo dieted for about 3-4 years in trying to find not only what diet plan was right for me, but also what would give me the best results and help me to get rid of my excess fat.
Before starting the 8 week challenge I was weighing in at 104 kg, which is extremely obese for my height. Coming from a pacific island background I naturally thought that I was just 'heavy boned' however, this was only to help me feel better about how much I really weighed. My emotional status was not healthy, let alone my physical. I was starting to lose hope and was constantly mentally preparing myself to accept that I was just one of those 'big girls'. This was a really dangerous mindset for me because I was I felt that I was really losing my fight to better both my appearance and my lifestyle. However, after seeing the success that a cousin had gained from the products whilst being on her 8 week challenge I knew that this would be a great opportunity for me to begin to gain some of that fight back. Digging in deep I managed to make my first step to face my 'at the time' demons. I was soon going to be completing my Sport and Recreation degree and it was about time I walked the talk and took hold of my life.
I had joined the challenge over the most difficult period.. that including the festive seasons of both Christmas and New Years. No doubt these periods were extremely difficult for me and did do some serious damage to the hard amount of dedication and commitment I had put into my challenge previously to the season. As a result I was set back, and needed to work extra hard to get rid of the unwanted kg's that I had just put on in the season. However, with the constant support from the rest of the YorHealth family and the other participants on their challenges, this really made me push past these obstacles. On completion of this challenge I am weighing in at 100kg's which was my first short term goal. I know this may not seem like much to others but it is great personal progress for myself and it has prepared me for my next 8 week challenge that I will be carrying out in the near future!
Throughout my 8 week challenge I was using several products. I was taking a fibre plus + super greens sachet every morning also mixed with a berry blast. This was really affective and woke my metabolism up straight away. The berry blast was that extra boost of energy that I needed for my 6am wake ups before work. I was also taking the MRP shakes in both vanilla and chocolate depending on what I was feeling like. These shakes were taken as meal replacers when I was unable to create the time to make lunch most days before work, so these were supplemented into my diet around lunch time. I also consumed the shakes after morning workouts and late night workouts. I was also taking the digestive ultras with each of my meals and could find myself taking between 2-4 every day. These were really effective and I could feel the enzymes breaking my food down straight away which kept me less bloated after meals. I was also taking probiotics every morning as soon as I woke, alongside that of my ultra repair. The ultra repairs were also consumed before bedtime to help my body recovery after a tough session for the following day. I was also taking the essential vitamins with every meal, and I found that these really had a positive effect on my overall energy throughout the day. Lastly, I was also taking the super slim pills half an hour before every meal to help suppress my appetite and help control the amount of food that was consumed in each meal. These pills worked a treat!
As for exercise, I was exercising around 3-4 times a week and tried to make the group trainings with the rest of the YorHealth family every Saturday morning. These trainings consisted of different vigorous cardio exercises, strength trainings, endurance and also power.
All things considered, this challenge and all the people who were involved with it really made me realise just how important it is to maintain a healthy lifestyle not only for yourself, but for your family, and for those people around you. My health was in a really bad place, my physical, emotional, spiritual, and social, and this challenge has really pushed me in the right direction to making things right with myself, taking accountability of where I am, and where I want to go in the future. I know that this is only the beginning for me and I have an extremely long journey ahead of me, however, I have been equipped with the knowledge, the products, the accessibility to meal plans, group trainings and the best support ever to be able to reach my goals both short and long term. I am super excited for my next challenge and I know that I will smash it out with all that I am and all that I have!
