Growing up I wasn't a kid who was very big for the majority of my life. I had a lot of health issues, a weak immune system, breathing issues, even very bad ear infections causing me to almost lose my hearing. I had several surgeries before the age of 10. I had to be cared for almost like a small infant up until then.
Throughout high school although I was a lot healthier than I was as a kid I was still pretty skinny and small for my age. Many people tell stories about having issues with the weight and being overweight, but for me being the scrawny guy in the locker room at school was just as disheartening. I couldn't gain weight for anything.
After High School I told myself I would do whatever it took to really gain weight and build muscle. I was maybe 148 or 150 lbs. and I walked into a supplement shop and got the most expensive weight gainers and proteins. Price didn't matter to me I was just sick of being the little guy. I took the supplements and went to the gym and after 1 year and 1/2 I got up to my dream weight I thought at the time 180 lbs. My arms, chest, shoulders, and back was a lot bigger, but what also grew was my gut. The supplements helped put on a lot more than just muscle mass.
I was introduced to the YOR Health product line 1 year ago by my friend Kasey Kellerman. At that time I had gotten to around 181 or 182. I didn't have the best diet, was clueless to nutrition although I still purchased vitamins monthly, and I had stopped going to the gym consistently. When I started the products I took the entire YOR product line. Within 2 months I got my weight down from 181 to 166. I had more energy, my digestion improved, I was a lot more lean, cut, and for the first time in a very long time I had visible abs! lol
As the year went along I continued on the YOR product line, but I stopped going to the gym and started to eat pretty bad. I didn't gain much weight, but I did start to develop a little belly again. I knew I needed to do something about it. The 8 week challenge couldn't have come at a better time! I wanted to enter not because of the prizes which were nice, but because I needed to do something about my health and get the body I knew I wanted. I was definitely inspired by my friend Gloria last year’s female YOR Best Body winner. Seeing a complete stranger go through that body transformation is one thing, but to see your friend, someone you knew since high school go through what she did last year to win the contest showed me that if she could do that what is stopping me?
I officially joined the challenge January 2nd and said to myself “8 weeks from now you won’t be able to recognize who this person in this picture is.” I sought advice from my friends who were personal trainers about what I should be eating food wise and what their diet consisted of personally? I cut out fried foods, fast food, sweets, including candy and desserts, artificially flavored juices, and late night snacking. I replaced that with eating things such as, eggs, oatmeal, grilled chicken, steamed vegetables, salmon, tilapia, and brown rice instead of white rice, lots of water, almond milk, salad, Greek yogurt, and fruit bowls. I also ate 6 times a day because my goal was to gain lean muscle. The products I used during the challenge were MRP, supergreens, probiotics, digest ultra, complete burn, and fiber. I also went to the gym 5 times a week doing some weight training and mixing in some cycling and kickboxing classes for cardio. Basketball was another favorite for cardio.
My daily routine looked like first thing when I woke up took 1 probiotic with 8 ounces of water. Then I had my chocolate MRP with one scoop fiber, 8-10 ounces of almond milk or water, and one tablespoon of peanut butter (sometimes even throwing in raw oats or oatmeal). Half hour later I would head to the gym taking 1 complete burn before starting my workout. After coming home I would have a vanilla MRP with supergreens. For lunch I would have either a prepared meal of grilled chicken with brown rice, fish with brown rice, or salad mixed with nuts, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, and chicken with light dressing not to leave out 1 digest ultra. Later I would have a Greek yogurt, granola bar, or fruit bowl for a snack. Then dinner would look just about the same as lunch with my digest ultra and a side of water.
My before weight starting the challenge was 164 lbs my end weight is 168 lbs. I gained 4 lbs of lean muscle. I was also able to lower my percentage of body fat by 5%. This challenge definitely has changed my life. I'm in the best shape of my life and I'm a lot more confident approaching people wherever I go about the challenge because I can confidently show them my pictures. The biggest thing the challenge has showed me is discipline. That was something I feel I could carry over in my health, my life, and my YOR business. I've come a long way from that sick little boy and the scrawny teenager. I hope my story and pictures inspires others to go after their goals just as my friend Gloria did with hers inspiring including myself. I also hope it gets my family to really get on the products too because I worry about their health. I'm super excited for the cycle 2 challenge and to set new goals for myself!
