I began this eight week challenge with a goal to become a healthier person - both in mind and in body. I had no idea just how much these last eight weeks would change my life. Four weeks ago (directly in the middle of my challenge) I had to have emergent surgery. It was discovered that I had a tumor growing on my ovary, which would need to be removed and I underwent a total laproscopic hysterectomy. I was hospitalized overnight and returned home where I was confined to my bed. Mentally, this was one of the hardest challenges I have ever faced. Physically, I was in pain and unable to even complete the simplest of tasks. I was determined, however, not to let this set me back. As soon as the doctor allowed me to I began to walk. At first I could barely walk down the road without having to sit down and rest. After a few weeks I was walking a few miles at a time. I wasn't able to go back to the same physical schedule I had been previous to surgery and I'm still prohibited from lifting anything over 10 lbs, but I as able to show myself how truly strong I am and just what I can accomplish if I put my mind to it. I could have easily taken my surgery as en excuse to give up on this challenge, but I am proud that I took it instead as simply an obstacle. I may not win this but I know that I did everything I could. Being proud of something you did is a gift in itself!
