Hello everyone who is reading this!
My name is Nick Knowles.
I decided to do this challenge shortly after being introduced to yorhealth through my sponsor, and goodness - have things changed.
I was always bullied from the age of 10 for being slender, and after highschool, my body was always fairly ordinary. Even when I began to exercise and do martial arts, my peers would often tease my attempts to build any real muscle or toning because they said any progress is cause of my metabolism/being skinny, and that I was wasting my time.
Doing this challenge was a big move for me - saying to myself that enough is enough. I decided that I wanted to get to 80 kilograms (the heaviest weight I thought was acceptable for my height), get much more muscle in my core/abdomen area, and if I could, expand my arm girth and shoulder size.
I began this challenge at 74 kilos, on a program that had helped me get from 68 to 74 kgs, so I thought not much had to change. I used almost all of the products every day - the berry blast every morning (and sometimes at lunch if I was feeling really tired), the MRP and supergreens after every workout and sometimes during a snack. I took the essential vitamins every morning and afternoon and took the probiotics and repair every morning and evening, and I used digest for my big lunches and dinners used to pack on the kilos.
I personally believe my progress curve streamlined using these products. The training program that had gotten me from 68 to 74 kg's in five months, when I began to take the products, suddenly got me to 77.
Unfortunately, I got sick a few times during my training, and this made me lose a few kilos here and there, but in the end, I definitely hit my goal for getting more definition in my abdomen. It was very difficult training five days a week when I'm also studying a university degree and working part time, but the regularity of the products definitely helped remind me that this was MY challenge and that it had to be done.
There are three great feelings that I believe exist in this world: creating something, watching something grow, and working hard.
All three of these aspects of the eight-week challenge have made this the most satisfying and emotionally fulfilling thing I have completed in a long time. I was able to watch my weight increase while I still lost body fat and gained more muscular definition.
About halfway in, I decided it was time to get really serious about my goals, and I doubled the amount of arms and abs workouts per week that I did. It meant more gym work – often straight after work in the evenings, rather than in the mornings like I prefer. By this point I was training either back, chest, legs, abs/shoulders, or arms each weekday morning, plus an extra two nights a week I would go in the evenings to work on my arms and abdomen again (these were my main areas).
I personally can’t even stress how useful the repair, supergreens and probiotics were to me. I went on a camping trip during my challenge and forgot to take my repair and supergreens – and even though I was lucky enough to have access to a pretty basic gym, I could not believe how sore, stiff, and clouded my body and mind felt after a couple of days of hard training without the products.
The only supplement in this challenge I didn’t take was the fibre. I can’t wait to utilise it during my next best-body challenge with YOR Health – this has been one of the best experiences I have ever had.
In the end, my arms and shoulders have more than certainly gained size, and my back (which I usually neglected in my workouts) has certainly filled out and gotten meatier. A lot of the fat tissue surrounding my ab muscles has apparently just fallen away. By no means do I mean this was effortless, but I’m very surprised at just how much more definition than expected I was able to get in just two months. I weighed in finally at 77 kilo.
But this has been about much more than the physical side of it.
I can happily say every aspect of my life feels more manageable, more confident, now that I know I'm in control of my weight and my muscular system. I can control now, how my body looks. The hard yards and absolutely dreaded leg days aside, I now have control over a part of my life that used to cause me grief, and holistically, I am in much better health now. I am in a better state.
And there is no better feeling than having people who used to make fun of your physique come to you asking for training advice, and help with their own eight-week challenge.
This is only the beginning!
