My entire life I have been an athlete. Being fit was never a challenge for me, and was something I almost took for granted. I was a professional ballroom dancer, the owner of one of the most successful studios in the country, and competing with my students and my professional partner almost every weekend. Fitness was a requirement in my profession, so working out was as much a part of my daily routine as eating and sleeping.
About a year ago, my business began to struggle. As the challenges grew and grew, I started to sink into depression. I started neglecting my workouts and stress eating junk food every day. As time went on and it became evident that my business was going to fail and I couldn't fix it, I started drinking and smoking cigarettes. I even got hooked on drugs, a habit I had already overcome once twelve years ago. I became a version of myself that I hated and couldn't respect, but I was in such despair I didn't see any way out. My business, that had been my lifetime dream, failed. My relationship failed, my friendships were failing, and now even my body was failing me. I couldn't believe what I had become.
When my business finally closed, I hit rock bottom. I knew that as much as it pained me to give up on my dream, that life was actually giving me a second chance to rebuild. I made the decision to kick my addictions, join the 8 Week Challenge and take back control of my life.
The 8 Week Challenge gave me something positive to focus on. It gave me a purpose and a goal to work for every day and kept me inspired to be sober and healthy again. I am excited to have my body back and to feel confident about my fitness and appearance again, but even more than that, I am excited that I can be confident about myself as a person again.
