I learned a lot from this 8 week challenge and I am glad that I stayed committed to my goal. Since giving birth to my son 6 years ago, I never made time to workout, or always used lack of time as an excuse not to workout. I lost the baby weight right away and thought that was good enough. Even though I was "skinny" I never felt "healthy". I was always run down and tired and never had the energy to workout. On the handful of times in the past 6 years that I decided to do any kind of exercise, I felt ristricted in my hip and had no feeling in my abs. I went to get it checked out and they told me that the lack of feeling was due to my c-section and to see a chiropractor for my hip. So I just went on my way thinking I would never have feeling in my abs and got adjusted monthly for my hip. Which worked out well for me at the time because I wasn't exercising. When the 8 week challenge came about, it gave me the motivation to workout and knowing that I had to post pictures 8 weeks later, held me accountable. So I stayed consistent on my products, started running and doing Crossfit. I was full of energy, felt amazing and actually enjoyed working out. Then there came point during some of the workouts where they would say "engage your core" and I felt a little silly when I couln't even do that. So 4 weeks into my challenge, I again went to get it checked out, because it didn't make sense to me that I wasn't able to feel that movement. I went to a physical therapist and finally got some answers that made sense. I was told I have "diastasis" which is separation of the abdominal muscles, and that I have what is called "pelvic floor dysfuntion" and that was referring pain and stiffness to my low back and right hip. So with all that I have no stability in my pelvic floor, abdominals or my back, so it made sense as to why I couldn't engage my core and the stiffnesss I was feeling. It felt good to find out what all of this was but at the same time was a little discouraging. I felt like all my hard work just went down the drain, I was working out 4-5x a week, had just put on about 8 lbs of muscle at that time and now I wasn't going to be able to run or work out as hard. I felt like giving up. But then I remembered why I started and decided to look at the positive, that after 6 years I now know what it is and can take the right actions to fix it. From there on, I stayed consistent on my products, went to Physical Therapy 2x a week, made sure I did everything they told me to and did what worksouts I was able to do. I maintained the weight I put on, and even gained more (11 lbs in total). I am glad that I didn't give up when things got tough like I wanted to and stuck to my goal. This challenge has taught me to never give up and that if you put your mind to something that anything is possible. I just had to decide to do it and not use this as another excuse not to workout. I know that once I continue with Physical Therapy that I will gain my core stablity and will be able to workout at full strenght and run again!!
