A short 2 months ago I entered myself into an 8 week body transformation challenge. My initial goal when starting out initially was to simply "string 8 weeks of training together". Reason being that I had struggled to train consistently over the previous 18 month period due to the fact that I'd faced various injuries (shoulder, lower back, ankles, the list goes on and on).
Prior to entering this challenge, I'd procrastinated for a good period of about 5 months with my training and eating style. I kept seeking out advice from others whom I was looking up to as if they had the magic answer for me that I was missing. After a lot of waiting around on responses and not lack of communication I came to a point where I was pissed off and decided that you know what? Why should these people have any influence on me if they can't even handle basic communication? Why should I take advice from anyone in anything, if they can't even get their lives in order?
This was a huge wake up call to me because as I sat there dwelling on this thought, I thought to myself "Screw it!" These people are no better than me, they don't know any more than me, all the information I need is readily available for me, I just have to put my head down and get to work.
So pulling all my resources together, the last decade of training materials everything from Bruce Lee's journals to Arnie's Bodybuilding Encyclopaedia. The last 5 years of nutrition study, trial and error that I'd gone through... All this to create my program for the coming 8 weeks.
All of a sudden I was feeling empowered and on cue. I made an overnight shift in mentality from all this being too hard, to it being a simple process. To the point where I had systemised how to create all my meals, when to train, when to eat, everything done so succinctly and simply in a way where I could look at my program and not feel dawned by the fact that I'd be doing it for the coming 8 weeks, rather excited and inspired by the notion of a new lifestyle change.
In the first 4 weeks of my challenge I hadn't trained nearly as much as I'd like to, only 3 times a week. But I stuck to my commitment of being consistent. At this time I had decided I wanted to do a progress picture to see how I was tracking... and WOW! I was blown away by the response I was getting from my body with this new plan. So much that I felt an even greater surge of inspiration.
At that exact point I committed myself to training 6 days a week to close my challenge as strong as possible. With the assistance of a great training partner pushing me through it, good friends and colleagues supporting me and giving me the right advice I was capable of achieving a physique that I'd only dreamed of prior, all in the space of 8 weeks. 2 MONTHS! That's it.
As I write this testimonial and look back at how quickly I achieved those results there is only one thought stuck in my head: "Why the hell did I not start earlier?"
In closing, I wanted to say that while I'm ecstatic with the physical transformation I was able to take my body through in such a short space of time, this wasn't the high point of the 8 weeks. The high point for me was dropping all the stories I had about other people knowing better than me, dropping all the self-limiting beliefs and proving myself wrong.
If you know someone who is on a mission to better health, a better body or just in need of a pick me up please share this with them as I know the biggest thing that kept me going when I was struggling to get results through that 18 month window was other peoples stories, seeing that it was achievable for someone to achieve amazing results.
A big thank you to my friends, family and the team for their endless support.
